Preparation
Visit the
CFS website to join their email alert list. This will enable
you to receive emailed media releases relating to bushfire. Ensure you
have battery-powered radios and extra batteries and tune to your local
ABC radio.
Horse owners, horse organisations or horse event managers need to
make sure that they help themselves, the CFS and Government by:
-
Preparing a Bushfire Survival Plan, share it with staff, volunteers, club
members and agistment clients; making sure it is activated. This is available
at www.cfs.sa.gov.au
-
Keeping yourself well informed during danger periods via battery-powered
radio, CFS website and by calling the Bushfire Information Hotline number:
1300 362 361.
-
Registering your Property with PIRSA. This information is used in response
and recovery. Phone (08) 8207 7900 or download from the
registration application form. It is currently FREE.
-
Uniquely identifying each horse (microchip/brands) Clear photos may also
come in useful
-
Place your email address on the Horse SA email list as this will be used
in a similar way to the horse flu response to disseminate information.
Enter your email address via the Horse SA homepage www.horsesa.asn.au
-
Horse owners may also consider registering with the Horse Emergency Contact
Database (HECD) on www.horsecouncil.org.au
-
Did you know that many mobile phones can now be set up to receive emails?
This may be a useful application to consider.
Note: Horse SA or the CFS cannot prepare your property for you, write
your bushfire survival plan, move horses during a fire, organise float
convoys or move horses on fire danger days. The CFS can provide advice
that will assist you in preparing for a bushfire and putting your plan
into action in the event a bushfire occurs.
Click onto the Resource Centre and Links pages for ideas to include in
your Bushfire Survival Plan relating to horses.
